We Don’t Know What We Don’t Know

Published by Ronald Parisi on March 9, 2021

Getting deep:

We are an accumulation of our own experiences. Up until this very moment, our brain, our thinking, and our patterns are programmed by the experiences we have going through life.

To be successful we must understand that there are things that we have not been exposed to. There are things we have not experienced and probably will not ever experience.

We don’t know what we don’t know.

Your job:

As a successful business owner, your job is to surround yourself with people who are different than you. People who will provide unique insights. Those who have their own experiences to bring to the table. An essential part of being successful is to surround yourself with a team that possesses experiences and skills you don’t have.

Our job:

There are many areas of the accounting arena. It would be impossible for one singular person to know about all of it. That is why we make sure to have a diverse team with a plethora of skillsets.

We are on the cusp of another stimulus package and a completely new tax structure. These are all things we don’t have the luxury of knowing beforehand. To counteract that, we make sure to have a great team that can stay ahead of the changes that come.

Conclusion:

At the end of the day, We Don’t Know What We Don’t Know. To prevent being broadsided by an unanticipated issue, you need to surround yourself with people who have different experiences and skills than you.

Successful business owners do not hire a team of people like themselves – they hire people who think differently. That is why it is important to have a vCFO who brings knowledge and experiences to the table that you may not possess otherwise.
